Junior Developments at Carraig

Dear Members,
Now that the work on the new floodlights is finished and the summer is fast approaching, we have some junior tennis events planned which are outlined below.
Saturday afternoon tennis for U8s and U10s
We are running a number of fun tournaments aimed at Under 8s and Under 10s from 4-5.30 pm on Saturday afternoons (subject to sufficient interest). These will consist of Fast 4s – a round robin tournament, first to 4 games with short deuce. Proposed dates and groups as follows:
Under 10 boys on Saturday 14 May
Under 10 girls on Saturday 21 May
Under 8 boys on Saturday 28 May
Under 8 girls on Saturday 11 June
Numbers will be limited to 8 per session and we will need two parents to help supervise each event.
Please sign up via the following link for the relevant dates to allow us to manage numbers (first come, first served).
Ladder/Tennis Rungs
A new junior tennis ladder is being set up for junior members aged 11- 17 (subject to sufficient interest). Members will be able to register and challenge other members to singles matches. We will assess the activity levels once it’s up and running and can revise age limits and/or set up additional ladders if necessary. There will be a separate ladder for boys and girls.
If your child is interested in getting involved in the ladder, please email Carraigjuniortennis@gmail.com for further details.
Friday Social Tennis
We are proposing to trial a Friday evening social tennis for juniors aged 11-16 in a similar format to the adult Club Night. This will consist of 20 minute matches with players rotating onto different courts to ensure a good mix of abilities and competition. We would propose beginning this in mid June once the Summer League has finished and it will run from say 5.30pm to 7pm. We may even offer a pizza night as an incentive to get this group on the courts. More details to follow.
Leinster Tennis Leagues
Carraig entered four teams in the Leinster Spring leagues with a boys and girls team at both Under 12s and Under 18s. The last matches are due to be played on Sunday 8 May. There have been some good wins so far and lots of competitive tennis played by all team members. In particular, credit needs to be given to both the girls and boys Under 18 teams. The Carraig U18 teams had an average age of 13 and were playing against juniors who were 4 or 5 years older. All of our juniors went on court with smiles on their faces and came off court the same way regardless of the results. Lots of great experience was gained and there is lots of talent in this group for future Carraig league teams.
Survey
We have attached a brief survey for members to better understand the level of interest in different types of events and to ask for some assistance from parents with organising junior tennis at Carraig. We have a great club and lots of talent at the junior levels but as with all local clubs, Carraig is run by volunteers and we can only organise events for juniors with assistance from adult members. We would welcome any ideas for events and activities as well as volunteers to help get them off the ground.
Please help by completing the attached.
